About us.
The Gardens.
Waxing Moon Gardens is a small-scale intensive vegetable production project. We farm on a human scale, meaning that only hand tools are used to build and cultivate our gardens. By doing this, we are building, supporting and feeding the soil food web in a way that is regenerative and sustainable in the long term. Waxing Moon is non-certified organic. We were certified organic in 2023 & 2024 and also obtained the Real Organic Certification in 2024. Unfortunately, we let these certifications go as the cost no longer made sense for the size of our operation. We still follow all the same practices as when we held those certifications, and as always we use no pesticides, insecticides or sprays of any kind. Our pest prevention strategies focus on crop rotations, exclusion methods (netting) and the use of hedge rows to attract birds and beneficial insects that help us take care of pests naturally.
Zach.
Zach grew up in southern NH, where he developed a love for nature. After taking a position at Farmsteads of New England, he fell in love with farming. For a couple years he tried other things, but farming just kept pulling him back. Getting back into farming Zach started a 3 year journey with the vegetable crew at Brookford Farm in Canterbury, NH. At Brookford Farm Zach spent most of his days there either planting or harvesting. Feeling the importance of a sense of community and his drive to help regenerate the land, he made the decision to start Waxing Moon Gardens in the fall of 2019 with Tristan.
Tristan.
Tristan has always had a love for nature, particularly plants. She has spent her whole life working various nature based jobs and growing home scale vegetable gardens. When she met Zach, who had a burning desire to start his own farm, starting this project seemed like an obvious next step for her. Growing healthy, nutritious food in a way that has a positive impact on the earth feels very meaningful and fulfilling to her, and she is looking forward to continuing to learn and grow with Waxing Moon Gardens!
